Natural molecules, like those found in plants, break down naturally when they meet oxygen. This happens just like how grass or food decomposes. When these natural molecules are used in perfumes and applied to the skin, they start to break down because of oxygen, the warmth of the body, and skin bacteria.
On the other hand, synthetic (man-made) chemicals used in perfumes are built to linger. Some synthetic molecules don't break down easily and can stay on the skin for a long time.
